About this game

Checkers, also known as draughts, is a classic strategy board game for two opposing sides on an 8×8 checkerboard. Each side begins with twelve pieces on the dark squares. Move diagonally forward, protect your pieces, and plan captures to win by taking every opposing piece or leaving your opponent without a legal move.

This game follows American checkers rules. A regular piece moves one square diagonally forward or captures by jumping over an adjacent opponent into the empty square beyond. Captures are mandatory whenever available, and a piece that can capture again must continue its multi-jump sequence. Reach the far edge to crown your piece as a king, which can move and capture diagonally both forward and backward. Crowning ends the turn, even if the new king could capture again.

In this implementation, you play red against a computer controlling black. Legal destinations are highlighted after you select a piece, and status messages explain forced captures, jump continuations, and the computer's turn. The responsive Daybreak-style board supports desktop clicks and mobile taps, while wins and losses are saved locally in your browser. Start a fresh match at any time with New Game.
