DMZ MW4 (also searched as Modern Warfare 4 DMZ) is Call of Duty's extraction mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Deployments take place in Hajin, an exclusion zone shaped by the campaign. You can play solo or in a squad against AI enemies and rival Operators, then extract with loot. The June overview sets the challenge: finish objectives, recover supplies, and escape with them.
Key Facts
- Mode: DMZ MW4 / Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, set in Hajin
- Play style: solo or squad deployments
- MW4 DMZ Early Access: October 20 for eligible Standard Digital and Vault Edition preorders
- Full release: October 23, 2026 (out now)
- Going MIA: pay DMZ Cash to recover an Operator with Traits intact; gear is lost
- Secure Slots: only items in them survive a failed exfil
MW4 DMZ Missions and Extraction
Story Missions continue the narrative inside live servers shared with other players. Dynamic Operations provide multi-step objectives, while Side Ops include recovering supply drops and repairing trucks. Free exploration is also an option. Helicopters and skyhooks are among the extraction methods described in the official overview.
Navigating Hajin
The Hajin field guide identifies locations including 14th Political Prison, Chang-san Air Base and Haneul Nuclear Reactor. Its grid uses letters from west to east and numbers from north to south; D7 identifies Imjin Farmland. Keys include grid references in their descriptions.
Watch three HUD indicators:
- Time Remaining: Signals when the radiation storm will intensify.
- Threat Level: Shows danger at your current point of interest. Higher levels bring reinforcements; breaking contact and taking cover can reduce the threat.
- Hostiles Kill Count: Filling this meter sends a Hunt Squad after you and marks you for death.
Preparing at the Forward Operating Base
The FOB guide (published October 9, 2026) describes a base where you store loot, equip Operators and receive Orders. Further deployments unlock and upgrade its facilities.
To increase the weapons you can build in the Gunsmith, you need to find and extract Weapon Manuals. Purchasing and building weapons costs DMZ Cash. Weapon levels and attachment progression count across Multiplayer and DMZ.
Official Deep Dive Status (Checked October 22, 2026)
As of the evening of October 22, 2026 (America/Los_Angeles), Activision's published DMZ Deep Dive Part 1 (Hajin) and Part 2 (FOB) remain the October 9, 2026 intel packages. No newer official Call of Duty blog post after those guides added MIA recovery rules, Secure Slot counts, or new FOB station unlocks beyond what is already covered below. If Activision posts launch-day patch notes or a new DMZ briefing, the coverage here will be updated from that primary source.
MW4 DMZ MIA Operators: How Recovery Works
If your Operator is eliminated during a deployment, they go MIA (Missing in Action) and can't deploy again until you recover or dismiss them. The rules below come from the official FOB guide.
| MIA Step | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Operator is eliminated | Goes MIA and can't deploy |
| Recover | Pay DMZ Cash from your in-game Bank at the Operators (Active Duty) station |
| Recovery cost | Set by the Operator's Trait Points. More Traits means a higher price |
| After recovery | The Operator keeps all Traits but returns without gear |
| Dismiss instead | Drop the MIA Operator and start fresh with a new one |
What You Keep After Going MIA
- Traits: kept when you pay to recover the Operator.
- Gear: lost. Equip a new Loadout before you deploy again.
- Dog Tag: it can be taken if the Operator dies, and it comes back when the MIA Operator returns to Active Duty.
- XP: the June deep dive says you keep earning XP, rewards and traits even when an operation fails.
Ways to Make MIA Recovery Cheaper
- MIA Recovery Discounts are one of the permanent FOB upgrades you build at the 3D Printer station.
- The Vault Edition Deployment Kit includes 2 Operator Rescue Beacons, along with 2 Weapon Insurance Contracts, 2 Fulton Drop Markers, 2 Medium Backpacks and 2 2-Plate Carriers. Activision hasn't explained how the Rescue Beacons work.
- An Operator who is MIA can't be Prestiged until you rescue them.
MW4 DMZ Secure Slots: Keep Loot When You Fail to Exfil
Anything in your Backpack that isn't in a Secure Slot is lost if you fail to exfil. You start without Secure Slots. They come with upgraded Backpacks.
| Backpack | Secure Slots | 3D Printer Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Pack (default) | No, 8 item slots | Not crafted |
| Small Backpack | No, extra item slots only | 25 Synthetics, 25 Metals |
| Medium Backpack | Yes, plus extra item slots | 50 Synthetics, 5 Rigid Synthetics |
- Put your most valuable loot in Secure Slots before a risky fight or exfil.
- Activision hasn't published how many Secure Slots each Backpack has.
- The Free Loadout you can take at deploy only stays yours if you extract with it.
