Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake arrives natively on Nintendo Switch 2 on Friday, October 16, 2026, as a digital Deluxe Edition. It launches alongside Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, all announced during September's Nintendo Direct. Nintendo Life reported the trio at the time. Physical copies are set to follow much later.
What's in the Deluxe Edition
The official Nintendo eShop listing confirms the October 16 date and includes the previously released DLC alongside the base game:
- Leon costumes: Arklay Sheriff, Noir and '98
- Claire costumes: Military, Noir, Elza Walker and '98
- Deluxe weapon: Samurai Edge (Albert, Jill and Chris models)
- Original Ver. Soundtrack Swap
The download is listed at 14.1 GB. The original Switch only got Resident Evil 2 as a cloud version, so this is the first time the remake runs locally on Nintendo hardware.
Pricing and pre-order discounts
In the UK, Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition costs £34.99, with a pre-order discount bringing it down to £26.24, according to Nintendo Life. The same report lists Resident Evil 3 at £24.99 (£16.49 on pre-order) and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition at £44.99 (£35.99). In the US, the Nintendo store page lists a regular price of $39.99, with pre-order discounts applied. Sale prices can vary by region and date, so check your local eShop before buying.
Nintendo's European store says pre-order payments are taken automatically starting seven days before release, so anyone pre-ordering now will be charged immediately.
Physical release on January 29, 2027
Players who want a cartridge will have to wait. Several outlets, including KitGuru and Final Boss, report physical editions on January 29, 2027. KitGuru notes that physical availability is confirmed for Europe and Asia. It is not yet clear whether the cartridges will hold the full game or use the Game-Key Card format.
What This Means
The October 16 date puts a native Resident Evil 2 on Switch 2 just in time for Halloween, and at a lower base price than some other platforms. Bundling all the cosmetic DLC makes the Deluxe Edition the obvious version to buy. Collectors face a harder choice: buy digitally now, or wait three months for a physical copy whose format and North American release are still unconfirmed.
